Okay I have had alot of questions lately about all the different types of lubricants and what ingrediants are in them. Yes, the listing is long but knowing is just half the battle, right? Below is a listing of all our current lubricants and the ingrediants within:

Slip N Slide
· Cyclomethicone- are unmodified silicones that possess a cyclical structure rather than the chain structures of dimethyl silicones
· Dimethiconol is a standard pure form of silicone that is heat stable, clear, colorless, odorless and inert fluids that are used in a wide array of cosmetic formulations.
· Dimethicone a linier polymer known for superior spreadability and is an excellent emollient.
Slip n Slide is a condom compatible silicone lubricant that has a non sticky silky texture. The long lasting formula is ideal for marathon lovemaking sessions and adventurous sex. With silicone lubricant a little goes a long way - less lubricant is needed per usage than water soluble lubes and won’t wash away during hot tub or shower fun. As an added benefit, it does not contain allergens or microbes that allow bacterial growth.

In the past Passion Parties has not promoted the use of silicone lubricants due to concerns from the FDA. However recent studies have proven that pure silicone lubricant like Slip n Slide is perfectly safe for use. The three ingredients that make up Slip n Slide have all been approved by the Cosmetic, Oil Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) the organization that regulates these products.

Polyethelyne- Long chained polymers are found in many lubricants their properties make them ideal emulsifiers or thickeners. Or in other words they are what make a lubricant feel thick and slick in many cases. They are capable of holding huge amount of water, which are then released by rubbing or friction. Long chained polymers are actually biologically inert plastics that can found in a multitude of food and cosmetics.
Methyl-paraben- a preservative and antibacterial agent

Ultraglide Personal lubricant is a silken liquid that enhances the pleasure of intimate contact without leaving a sticky residue. It has been used as a moisturizer for many years due to the beneficial effects it has on skin, although, there are no particular scientific studies to quantify this. Aloe has also been known to have properties as a spermicide, however, in the quantities used in lubes it should not be used as a contraceptive. But this ingredient would make the lube “not sperm friendly.”
Vitamin E- Vitamin E may be the most important antioxidant because it protects cell membranes and prevents damage. Natural sources of vitamin E include vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, grains, oats, nuts, and dairy products. Studies have indicated the acetate form (tocopherol acetate) is also bioavailable and protective for skin.

Revelation

Carbomer- Carbomers have large molecules and are used as thickening and suspending agents used primarily to create gel-like formulations.
Tetrasodium EDTA- Same as Sodium EDTA or Na- EDTA. It's a binding agent that reacts with minerals (like sodium, calcium and magnesium salts found in hard water) and makes them combine better with the water.
Tetrahydroxypropyl Ethylenediamine- Appears to be a binding agent that assists in forming gels. Limited information indicates that this is milder than other options. It is in many lubricants and cosmetics.
Methylparaben- a preservatives and antibacterial agent
Diazolidinyl urea- A formaldehyde-releasing preservative. A common type of preservative found in cosmetics.

Lickety Lube

Natural sources of vitamin E include vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, grains, oats, nuts, and dairy products. Studies have indicated the acetate form (tocopherol acetate) is also bioavailable and protective for skin.
Citric Acid- Derived from citrus and used primarily as a preservative to adjust the pH of products to prevent growth of bacteria. Can also ad flavor.

· Sorbitol- also known as glucitol, is an artificial sweetener. It provides 2.6 calories per gram versus the 4 calories of sugar and starch. Sorbitol also occurs naturally in many stone fruits. Similar to glycerin, it is a humectant, thickening agent, and makes things slippery.
Hydroxymethylcellulose- Carboxymethylcellulose Methylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, and hydroxymethylcellulose are forms of the familiar polysacharide cellulose, treated to make it more soluble in water. Cellulose is a long chain made of the sugar glucose. The long chains mix with water to make a thick syrup or gel.
Flavor (aroma)*
Methylparaben- a preservative and antibacterial agent
Potassium sorbate- is a polyunsaturated fatty acid salt, used as a preservative to inhibit molds, yeasts, and fungi.
Disodium EDTA- Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetic Acid A chelating agent otherwise known as edetate, versene, or diaminoethanetetraacetic acid disodium salt. Used as a preservitive and stabilizer.
Sodium Saccharin- Artificial sweetener.
Yellow 5 (C.I.19154) Blue 1 (C.I. 42090)- coloring agents

Is our lube sperm friendly?

Well, that is a really tough and highly debated topic!

I think it falls in to 3 categories of ingredients in lubes that can pose problems:
1- Spermicides kill sperm N-9 is an example of a spermicide used in some lubes (none of our lubes contain spermicides)
2- PH, if it becomes to acid with a ph under 7, the sperm die or lose motility. I do not know the ph of our lubes.
3- Hyperosmotic properties like glycerin and propylene glycol that change the water balance. Glycerine and propylene glycol are in most of our lubes. They are what make things feel wetter and slipperier. But they also decrease the motility of sperm.

The only lube I know of that is likely to be acceptable is Slippery Stuff liquid. They claim it is sperm friendly.
I think people need to make their own decisions and do their own research for sure since there is so much conflicting evidence.It is kind of a double edged sword...because infertile couples often suffer extra dryness. Particularly during ovulation.

One other thought...using Pure Satisfaction might be an option. It helps with the lubrication process and since it really doesn't touch the sperm it should not cause a problem the way I see it, but always recommend they check with their doctors! (however I have had a number of couples conceive with it who had previously used fertility treatment...I tell you, that $39.50 looked like a real deal and was fun too!)
